Geopark Manager

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced manager on a contract basis who can provide leadership and direction in the management of our organization. As Geopark Manager, you will help facilitate our vision & mandate, while ensuring that the requirements of our UNESCO designation are met.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the Geopark’s annual plan in alignment with UNESCO guidelines
  • Oversee the maintenance, protection and enhancement of geological sites within the Geopark
  • Ensure the conservation of the Geoparks natural and cultural heritage, and promote sustainable economic development within the Geopark.
  • Provide direction and support to Geoscience projects, programs and special initiatives
  • Develop educational programs and materials to raise awareness about the geological significance & conservation of the Geopark
  • Organize workshops, events and activities to engage local communities and visitors
  • Oversee recruitment, hiring and training of staff while promoting a positive work environment.
  • Manage the budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources and accurate reporting
  • Oversee fundraising efforts
  • Work closely and collaboratively with the Board of directors, sub-committees, working groups
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key Geopark stakeholders such as municipalities, members, partner organizations, private sector operators and government & educational partners.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with UNESCO, Canadian Commission for UNESCO, the Canadian Geopark Network, as well as other geoparks.
  • Manage digital presence including social media, website and online resources
  • Report to Board of Directors on a monthly and annual basis
  • Prepare and submit regular reports to UNESCO
  • Monitor and evaluate effectiveness of the Geopark’s programs and initiatives

Qualifications & Skills

  • A degree from a recognized university in a relevant field of study or an acceptable combination of relevant education, considerable job-related training and/or experience is required
  • Leadership experience at the Executive Director or senior executive level
  • Experience in national & international outreach initiatives
  • Experience in revenue generation and establishing collaborative relationships
  • Experience in reporting to/ or serving on a board of directors
  • Experience in budget management & financial planning
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Experience in dealing with all levels of government would be considered an asset
  • Geology background/experience would be considered an asset

*Must live in, or be willing to relocate to the Geopark region on the Bonavista peninsula

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $65,000.00-$75,000.00 per year
