The Discovery UNESCO Global Geopark members are people just like you! They have an interest in communities and recognize the importance of our heritage and the role it plays in our everyday lives.
We support people and organizations to work collaboratively to ensure the conservation of geoheritage, to ensure better understanding about our natural environment, to promote sustainable tourism, providing a vibrant community and strengthening livelihoods.
Members can live within the Discovery Geopark, around the province, or around the world. No matter what your interest, we all share a common goal to protect our geological resources so generations of residents and visitors can enjoy the Geopark for years to come.

Important Information regarding membership renewal & new membership applications prior to the 2024 AGM.

The Discovery UNESCO Global Geopark is undergoing exciting changes to its governance structure based on a 2024 diagnostic assessment of the organization carried out by Conach Consulting and the completion of Phase 1 ( Reconceptualizing the Board) of the resulting action plan. For more details on our organization’s action plan visit our Geopark management page. Proposed amendments to the organization’s Bylaws (required to establish an updated governance structure) affecting the membership have been reviewed and approved by the board of directors and will be sent to members in good standing on October 6th 2024 for 30 day review prior to the 2024 AGM.
Renewing Membership
Discovery Geopark’s By-law 4.3 states that “Those interested in a voting membership shall complete an application form for membership where they agree to advance the purpose and support the goals of the organization. Membership shall be granted upon the majority vote of the board. The board may accept, postpone or refuse any application for membership”.
Membership Renewal Approval: The board has determined that for lapsed memberships that have been previously approved by the organization, a paid renewal for a voting 2024 membership will be accepted until October 20, 2024. Memberships renewed after October 20, 2024 may not be reviewed and approved by the board until after the 2024 AGM. If you wish to vote in the 2024 AGM we strongly encourage renewals by October 20th, 2024.
New Membership: Applications for first time members will be reviewed for approval at the first meeting of directors after the 2024 AGM, with the exception of applications from those who have expressed interest in volunteering for a board of directors position or working group volunteer position.
Expressions of Interest to Volunteer for a Board of Directors Position or a Working Committee Position
What if you or your municipality, private-sector business or not-for profit has never been an approved member of Discovery Global UNESCO Geopark, but you wish to express interest in a board of directors position in 2024?
All persons elected or appointed to the Board must become a member of the Corporation following the written procedure. Individuals interested in consideration for a board of directors positions who have never previously held an individual (for at large positions) or business (for private sector, municipalities and not for profit sector positions) membership, may still submit an expression of interest to volunteer for a director’s position prior to having their application for membership approved.
Membership applications for individuals described above, who undergo an interview and are presented by the Discovery Geopark Nominations Committee to the voting membership for election to a board position at the 2024 AGM, will have their membership applications approved by the current board of directors prior to the election of officers at the 2024 AGM.
